Why Marzano?
At the end of last term in our shared learning meetings we discussed using the Marzano model of teacher evaluation. Scott researched and presented us with the 41 instructional strategies and we looked at using some of them for our individual reflections.
I then tried using them for my video sample on Learning intentions. I found the language to be quite sophisticated and not really user friendly. So decided to edit them and adapt it. I found this to be quite a good process to use for my personal evaluation.
Fast Forward to Week 3. In the senior years cluster meeting Eddie Gray one of our Technology teachers who is on a syllabus writing committee for the new Senior Assessment model. Told us that the QCAA were looking at Marzano's taxonomy for thinking skills. Which helped us to consolidate the fact that by looking at Marzano we were on the right track.
We then discussed that this was the option that we were going to go with. We as a group had a lot of conversations whether or not it works for us. We agreed in principle that it was a good option but that it continued to be the sheer volume of 41 strategies that were difficult and the terminology used. It was decided that we needed to continue to evaluate the individual reflection sheet and that Kylie and Scott would do it for Kylie's segment.
